THE FESTIVAL — (the year's work, celebrated:1.2) a child releasing bees onto the roof — a wide-brim hat with a ribbon of solar thread — ferrying neighbors across the canal at the canal festival of a beach town with a tidal array, a pollinator drone shaped like a bee dressed in bunting. content with enough of the loud, happy whole. (Wide festival panorama, boats and bridges and lanterns, the water a mirror). a 35mm at f/4 for the plaza, framing through leaves and shade-cloth. BREAK a hand extending a tomato of bunting and baskets; wooden decking, silvered by sun, resin-and-gravel permeable paving of the quay; a frog in the greywater pond, kites that are really drones, sparrows bathing in the runoff of the festivity's pets. wind towers on the ridge, turning the canal in full color. BREAK condensation jewels on a night-rack, the sparkle of resin in new paving, sun through dew on leaf glass, solar film catching the late sun the water fireworks. a jar of saved bottle caps by the kiln, a bee hotel with numbered rooms, a bell for the community hall, rung twice, two names carved into a public bench, a library card worn to felt
